Albersdorf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Albersdorf, local attractions range from the Steinzeitpark Dithmarschen archaeological open-air museum and historic buildings to the Gieselau Valley, Kaiserberg and Kiel Canal.

Archaeology and History

Steinzeitpark Dithmarschen is an archaeological open-air museum featuring a reconstructed cultural landscape covering around 40 hectares. It includes a full-scale reconstructed Stone Age village with 14 archaeologically inspired buildings, a nature playground and hands-on activities such as flint knapping, archery, jewellery making, fire making and bread baking.

The Steinzeithaus Museum presents original Stone Age finds, including an aurochs skull, a 7,000-year-old wooden paddle, early cereal finds, stone axes and daggers, as well as stones with cup marks. St. Remigius Church in Albersdorf is a Romanesque fieldstone church dating from the 12th or 13th century; it contains a late Gothic bronze baptismal font from 1470.

The thatched Bürgerhaus was built in 1695 and, alongside St. Remigius Church, is one of the oldest buildings in Albersdorf. The Bürgerhaus houses a cultural centre that serves as a forum for events. Brutkamp is a burial mound with the largest capstone in Schleswig-Holstein.

Landscape and Trails

Albersdorf publishes six local hiking routes. They include circular trails through the Steinzeitpark, the Lisbeth ehrn Diek pond area, the Tiefer Grund woodland, the area around the Mühlenteich pond, the town centre and the Gieselau Valley. The listed routes range from 1.8 to 3.7 km in length.

The Gieselau Valley south of Albersdorf features steep slopes formed by erosion from meltwater and precipitation. The Steinzeitpark is located directly on the signposted long-distance hiking trail along the Kiel Canal and can be reached by bicycle or on foot from all directions. The Gieselau Canal was built in 1936 as a connection between the Kiel Canal and the Eider to improve navigability.

Kaiserberg is a large burial mound; at its foot, a soil-extraction pit explains the development of the soil and landscape. The 36-metre-high viewing platform on Kaiserberg overlooks the Riesewohld, the geest landscape and the Kiel Canal.

Dithmarschen Tourism lists the 49.60-kilometre themed cycling tour “Canal and Stone Age Burial Mounds”, which starts at Süderstraße 47 in Albersdorf.
