Sobrigau is a circular village on a high plateau above the Lockwitz floodplain. The landscape was formed from a Cretaceous sandstone slab covered with loess soil.

Below Sobrigau lies a protected orchard slope on the site of a former vineyard and winery, which was associated with Altzella Cistercian Abbey in 1309.

Culture and History

The character of the village is shaped by several well-preserved farmsteads listed as heritage monuments, some of which date back to the 17th century. The history of the village also includes Hummelmühle: it was first mentioned in 1571 as a grain mill and historically also housed a bakery and an inn that served as a destination for day trips. Today, the mill is privately owned.

Hiking

The official E hiking trail is a 15.6-kilometre circular route that runs through Sobrigau and Borthen. Sobrigau is also connected to Kreischa’s wider network of hiking and spa trails. This includes connecting paths that visitors can use, as well as trails described as having historical character and scenic appeal.
