The collection of the Museum Schloss Klippenstein documents more than 800 years of Radeberg’s history and that of its inhabitants. Radeberg thus combines historical discoveries, landscapes and visits to the castle, brewery, distillery and mill.
Culture
Schloss Klippenstein began as a medieval castle and was converted into a hunting lodge under Duke Moritz in the 16th century. A free audio guide with around 31 short chapters provides information about the castle complex and the permanent exhibitions.
The permanent exhibition on the city’s history traces Radeberg from its founding to the mid-19th century. It uses originals from several centuries and presents crafts, trade and women’s working lives. The historic Radeberg city tour runs from the Radeberger Exportbierbrauerei to Schloss Klippenstein and passes historic sites, former industrial locations and long-established businesses.
The children’s tour “Radeberg Up and Down” uses photo cards, the historic city wall and former main gates as discovery stations. The Schlossmühle Radeberg is the only mill in Radeberg and the surrounding area that can be visited while it is still in operation.
Nature
The Hüttertal is described as a place for extended hikes in the Radeberg area. The Dresdner Heide is described as suitable for cycling and, in winter, skiing.
The Storchennest Botanical Garden for the Blind in Radeberg covers 20,000 square metres and includes around 1,300 plant species, including approximately 700 fragrant species. Its 1.5-kilometre main path has a handrail; there are also tactile planting areas in raised beds.
Food and Drink
The Radeberger Exportbierbrauerei offers guided tours focusing on the art of brewing beer and Radeberger Pilsner. The tours last around two hours and include tastings of Radeberger Pilsner and unfiltered Zwickel.
The brewery is located around 300 metres from Radeberg railway station, which has regional train, suburban railway and bus connections. The Radeberger Destillation & Liqueur-Fabrik offers visits to historic rooms focusing on Original Radeberger Kräuterlikör.
