Kirschau can be discovered through a range of specific details: Körse Castle on a granite cone surrounded by the River Spree, a church in the late Art Nouveau style, and contemporary art at FLOX Gallery. The landscape, architectural history and art each offer a different focus. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, these themes can help answer the first question: Which side of the town would you like to shape your stay?

Körse Castle and its landscape

Körse Castle lies southeast of Kirschau on Schlossberg hill. The granite cone surrounded by the River Spree connects this distinctive landform with the historic site. If you are interested in both the landscape and the castle, you will find a clear link here between the river, granite and castle complex. The Körse Castle ruins include a castle museum and a model of the ruins. This brings three different aspects into focus: the site, the museum and its depiction in the model. If you are interested in historic sites, you can take these connections into account when planning your trip.

Church architecture and local sights

St. John’s Church was built in 1924 to a design by Dresden architect Bohlig. It is an octagonal, circular-plan building in the late Art Nouveau style. The combination of terms may seem unusual at first: “octagonal” describes the shape, while “circular-plan building” describes the type of structure. Together with the year of construction and its stylistic classification, they create a specific picture of the architecture, even if you have no specialist knowledge. Since 2019, St. John’s Church has also been a cycling church. Check the latest visitor information before your visit.

Local sights include the factory owners’ villas and the town centre, as well as Körse Hall, the Dreiländerstein boundary stone and the Töppelbank. Körse Hall is a listed building. TanzART Kirschau at Friese is also one of Kirschau’s sights.

FLOX Gallery at Friese

FLOX Gallery opened in Kirschau on 29 June 2013, in reconstructed rooms of the former sample office on the former Friese industrial site. It shows contemporary art and has around 500 m² of exhibition space. It is also one of the largest privately run galleries of its kind in Saxony in terms of space. Here, a former industrial site meets a contemporary focus on art. The programme and opening hours may change, so check the latest visitor information in advance.

Practical information for your stay

Körse Thermal Baths, along with its playground, is one of Kirschau’s sights. As of 31 August 2026, the thermal baths were closed for ongoing renovation and improvement work. Before you travel, check whether the closure is still in effect. In August 2026, an official hiking map for Kirschau, Rodewitz and Bederwitz was available to download. Before setting off, it is a good idea to check whether the download is still available. The map can serve as a starting point for planning your own hikes.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Kirschau, you can start with your travel interests: would you like the history of the castle and landscape, the architecture of St. John’s Church, or contemporary art to be the main focus? If you are travelling with children, take everyone’s different interests into account. Then check the location of a specific property against your own plans.
