Discover Hundshübel: History, Forest and Reservoir
Accommodation in Hundshübel
Hundshübel combines Ore Mountains history with forest, views and special trails along Eibenstock Reservoir. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Hundshübel can shape their stay according to their interests with small discoveries, a cycling tour, historical insights or a hike. The various destinations show just how varied a holiday in this village can be.
Ore Mountains history at the Nadlerhaus and the Mühle Collection
One of the most notable historical destinations is the Nadlerhaus. The Ore Mountains day-labourer's house was built around 1750, is one of Hundshübel's oldest buildings and has largely been preserved in its original condition. In the local history room, you can gain insights into aspects of life in the area in the past. Guided tours with explanations about the building's history can be arranged by prior appointment. This is particularly interesting for travel planning if you do not want to limit your visit to a short tour.
The Mühle Collection provides an unusual addition. The Razor Museum displays around 2,000 exhibits relating to 200 years of shaving culture. The collection is presented in a historic 1930s salon. Visits are possible on request, including for travel groups. This allows a stay in Hundshübel to be extended with a specialist museum that clearly differs from traditional local history museums.
The church in Hundshübel is also part of the village's historic appearance and looks back on more than 200 years of history. Together with the Nadlerhaus, it represents a cultural side of the village that can easily be combined with walks and excursions in the surrounding area.
Forest, water and trails around the reservoir
The Hundshübel forest nature trail is located directly on Eibenstock Reservoir in the Ore Mountains/Vogtland Nature Park. The easy circular trail is 2.12 kilometres long and offers a manageable way to explore the landscape. If you would like to plan a shorter route for one day, you can include this trail as a separate excursion.
The Marienweg provides more information about the region's past and the landscape before the construction of Eibenstock Reservoir. It includes 15 information boards. The “At Eibenstock Reservoir / Marienweg” trail begins and ends at the Hundshübel forebay. It also includes a section where visitors can walk onto the dam of Eibenstock Reservoir. The Marienweg therefore offers both historical topics and a direct connection to the structure.
For longer excursions, there is a panoramic hike around Eibenstock Reservoir that leads via a detour to the Viechzig rest area in Hundshübel. From Viechzig, the highest elevation in the village of Hundshübel, the view stretches across Eibenstock Reservoir to the ridge of the Ore Mountains with the Auersberg. The circular route around the reservoir is also used as a cycling tour. Depending on the pace you want for your holiday, you can therefore choose between a short nature trail, a themed hike, a panoramic route and a cycling tour.
