Dietersdorf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Dietersdorf lies on the edge of the southern Harz gypsum karst landscape in a small hollow surrounded by fields and extensive woodland. The adjacent forests offer hiking opportunities starting from Dietersdorf; the Joseph Cross is one of the sights accessible from the village.

Landscape and Nature

The Southern Harz Biosphere Reserve offers gypsum karst formations, beech and oak forests, orchards, hiking along the Karst Hiking Trail, cycle paths, sinkholes and disappearing streams.

Culture

The village church of Dietersdorf has a Strobel organ, was built in 1554 and expanded between 1712 and 1736. It can be visited by prior arrangement. In the centre of the village there is also a court lime tree approximately 600 years old.

The historic character of the village includes half-timbered houses, planted areas, and restored streets and squares. Dietersdorf is also home to the riding facility Island Horses from Hasselhof for Icelandic horses.

The Wolf Monument stands south of the Schwiederschwende hunting lodge. It was erected in 1824 in memory of the last wolf killed in the southern Harz.

The surrounding area of Dietersdorf is home to the ruins of Morungsburg, Rothenburg and Ebersburg, as well as Poppenberg. Breiteberg, Kleiner Bärenkopf and Roter Berg are also located near Dietersdorf. Karlsburg lies in the wider regional surroundings of Dietersdorf.
