Niedere Börde: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

In Groß Ammensleben, the historic St. Peter and Paul monastery and church complex is located along the Romanesque Route in Saxony-Anhalt. It is the first stop on the northern route towards the Altmark and is also part of the European cultural route Transromanica. The monastery church preserves extensive stone masonry dating from the foundation of the chapter of Augustinian Canons in the 12th century.

The information centre in Groß Ammensleben is open for visits and guided tours on the last Sunday of each month from May to September, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Landscape

The southern part of Niedere Börde transitions from the Hohe Börde landscape into the Elbe glacial valley, with differences in elevation of up to 70 metres. Gutenswegen has a largely open landscape with rolling fields. South of Gutenswegen, there is also a protected spring area in the deciduous forest.

Water and Surroundings

Jersleben is situated between the Ohre River and the Mittelland Canal, on the edge of the Börde and heathland landscapes. Jersleber See serves as a recreational area and attracts many visitors every year. Its water surface covers approximately 40 hectares and was created by excavating material for the embankments of the Mittelland Canal.

Places and Traditions

The Klein Ammensleben Loden Coat Race has taken place annually on the first weekend of October since 1984. Vahldorf became known beyond the region, including in America, for its cheese.
