Orscholz combines impressive landscapes with a wide range of experiences for a varied stay. The Cloef is a defining feature: a rocky viewpoint around 180 metres above the Saar at the apex of the Saar Loop near Orscholz, a district of Mettlach. Together with the Saar Loop, it has been one of Germany’s National Geotopes since 2006. If you choose a holiday apartment in Orscholz, you can therefore plan your trip around the landscape, activities and your individual interests in exploring the area.

Views and nature around Orscholz

The Cloef gives you an immediate impression of the distinctive landscape of the Saar Loop. The Orkelsfels has a different character: this ruggedly fragmented rock formation lies high above the town and, on a clear day, offers a unique view across large parts of the Saarland. This allows you to combine different nature experiences in your day’s plans – the striking viewpoint at the Saar Loop and the wider view from the Orkelsfels.

The Cloef-Atrium is an important place to get your bearings. It is an official nature park information centre and provides information about hiking trails, excursion destinations and events in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. It is also a practical place to plan your journey by car or bus: the fee-paying P1 and P2 car parks are available at the Cloef-Atrium. P2 also has four charging stations for electric vehicles.

Experiences for active and curious days away

Those travelling with children will find 25 play and learning stations in the Saarschleife Adventure Forest. The attraction covers more than 7,000 square metres. The entrance is directly opposite the exit of the Saarschleife treetop walk, next to the shop.

The Denkspur in Orscholz also focuses on active discovery. The interactive walking trail has a total of nine stations with various tasks and challenges. It begins at the Cloef-Atrium, next to the entrance to the treetop walk. Cyclists can take the Cloef Loop, a 25.25-kilometre cycling tour that also starts at the Cloef-Atrium. The route length is a useful planning figure if you want to choose your accommodation and excursions based on your preferred daily programme.

Experience history along the way

In addition to its natural attractions, Orscholz also has a historical side. The Höckerlinie, a concrete anti-tank obstacle, formed part of the Siegfried Line. A section more than one kilometre long and particularly well preserved has been uncovered and made accessible via a trail. The Höckerlinienpfad Orscholz project explores the themes of “war and peace” and “borders and Europe” in greater depth. This allows a stay at the Saar Loop to be complemented by a thought-provoking cultural element.

Putting Orscholz into perspective as a destination

When searching for a holiday apartment in Orscholz, it is worth defining your priorities early on: views and landscapes, shared play and learning stations, a cycling tour or an exploration of regional history. The Cloef-Atrium serves as a clear point of reference for several of the experiences mentioned.
