Kapellen-Drusweiler: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kapellen-Drusweiler has a historic village character, with restored half-timbered houses and traditional winegrowers’ estates in the green floodplain of the Erlenbach valley. The Rosengarten circular hiking trail runs through the Rosengarten vineyard south of the village.

Culture and History

The Protestant parish church in Kapellen-Drusweiler is a Baroque hall church built between 1717 and 1719, with a Neo-Romanesque tower dating from 1865. The Mennonite Chapel at Deutschhof is a hall church built in 1841. The Protestant Church houses a rare Stumm organ from 1831 with gilded oak carvings.

The village’s history includes its former hop-growing tradition: in 1792, Mennonite families introduced hop cultivation at Deutschhof, turning the village into a regional centre of hop growing in the Palatinate. A historic hop field has been preserved. The former Protestant rectory at Dorfstraße 7 is a hook-shaped complex that was built from 1767 onwards. The complex comprises a late-Baroque building with a hipped roof and a barn with a hipped roof. The cemetery on Kirchhofweg is a heritage conservation area with several 19th-century tombs.

Nature and Trails

The Rosengarten hiking trail follows the Fürstweg and offers views across the vineyard hills to the Palatinate Forest. The route passes the Keschdebusch chestnut grove with a pavilion and then returns to the village along improved farm tracks. During the flowering season, more than 400 rose bushes line the rows of vines at Rosengarten. Historically, roses in the vineyard served as an early-warning system for powdery mildew on grapevines; this practice has been preserved as part of the site’s history.

The renaturalised Erlenbach in the floodplain has visible fish and has become a habitat for three kingfishers. In the floodplain near Kapellen-Drusweiler, storks use a nest and breed there every year.

The “From Riesling to Zander” cycle tour begins in Pleisweiler-Oberhofen and leads through vineyards along the Rosengarten to Kapellen-Drusweiler.
