History
Leiningen was first mentioned in 1565 as the source of a spring, and its Sauerbrunnen was known for its good spring water. Around 1786, Sauerbrunnen was operating as a spa. Also around 1786, water from Sauerbrunnen was shipped to Lorraine, Alsace, Burgundy, the Palatinate and the Upper Rhine region.
The historic well building stands in Sauerbrunnen, which is located in a side valley of the Baybach. The original well house of Sauerbrunnen was built in 1898 and replaced by a new building in 1910. On 11 June 1910, the mineral water received official recognition as Lamscheider Stahlbrunnen.
