Etgert: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Etgert has been part of the Mark Thalfang since the 12th century. Searching for a holiday apartment to rent in Etgert can be combined with exploring the history, nature, and routes in the surrounding area.
History and Culture
The red lion in Etgert’s coat of arms represents the Wild- and Rhinegraves. The oak leaves in the coat of arms refer to an old oak tree at the entrance to the village and, at the same time, to the oak forests surrounding the cultivated land. The Etgertersägemühle lies north of Etgert and is listed as a cultural monument.
The Ausonius Trail follows the traces of a Roman connecting road and passes numerous Roman artefacts. The Ausonius Trail is usually completed in six stages.
Nature
The Bernkastel-Wittlich district combines the Volcanic Eifel, the Moselle Valley, and the wooded Hunsrück. Bernkastel-Wittlich has ten nature reserves and six landscape conservation areas. Swimming, cycling, hiking, water skiing, hang gliding, and winter sports are also promoted there.
The Erbeskopf is 816 metres high, offers hiking opportunities, and has winter sports facilities. At the Erbeskopf, the National Park Gate provides visitors with information about nature and the environment.
Massing’s Mill is described as a campsite in a natural Hunsrück valley through which a rushing mountain stream flows.
Hiking
Massing’s Mill in Etgert has direct access to the Etgert Circular Trail and is located about one kilometre from the Hunsrück Heights Road B 327. The area around Massing’s Mill is associated with the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig premium hiking trail, the Hölzbach Gorge, and the Ausonius Circular Trail.
The Hunolstein Gorge Tour has no direct connection to public transport. It is a 10.9-kilometre circular hike in the Hunsrück, passes through the Drohnhänge FFH protected area, and offers a gorge, varied forests, meadow valleys, and views of the surrounding area.
To access Massing’s Mill, visitors take an approximately 1.1-kilometre access road from the B 327. Massing’s Mill campsite is not reached via the village of Etgert.
