Culture and History

The origins of the Breit chapel probably date back to the 14th century. Over time, it was rebuilt and renovated many times. After a new cemetery hall had been built in the early 1990s, the municipal council decided that church services should once again be held in the Breit chapel.

The Chapel of St. Cosmas and Damian is designated as a protected cultural monument dating from 1700. In addition, a branch of the Ausonius Road, the Roman route connecting Mainz and Trier, passes through Breit.

Hiking and Cycling

Breit offers short walks. The Kugelbaum viewpoint is one option for hikes starting in Breit. The Hunsrück Wind Trail begins at the wind turbines of the Berglicht wind farm. The Wind, Water & Wacken dream loop is connected with Breit as a regional hiking option.

There are starting points in Breit for mountain bike tours through the Hunsrück. Thalfang MTB Route 2 can be joined on the outskirts of Breit in the direction of Talling. The starting point for MTB Route 4 at Panoramabad Leiwen/Zummet can be reached from Breit along the Dhron Reservoir in about 20 minutes. Mehring/Moselle Trail Park is approximately 30 minutes from Breit by mountain bike.

Region

In Bernkastel-Wittlich, the volcanic Eifel, the Moselle Valley and the forested Hunsrück meet. Bernkastel-Wittlich comprises ten nature reserves and six landscape conservation areas. In the Moselle region, visitors can experience wine culture through cellar tours and tastings at wineries.
