The restored Neu-Baumburg castle ruins crown Neu-Bamberg. Construction of the fortress began in the first third of the 13th century; parts of the old fortress were restored and rebuilt in 1980.

Nature

The Hiwweltour Heideblick is a 10 km circular hike that begins and ends at Hesselborner Mühle in Neu-Bamberg. It combines cultivated vineyards, protected natural areas, heathland and panoramic views around Neu-Bamberg. Along an old railway line, the route leads through the Appelbach Valley to Katzensteigermühle. From the Adlerdenkmal viewpoint, there is a view of the Neu-Bamberger Heide nature reserve.

Getting There

The Hiwweltour Heideblick can be accessed from the Burggraben, the Clock Tower and Hesselborner Mühle in Neu-Bamberg. For the tour, Neu-Bamberg can be reached from Bad Kreuznach railway station by bus 224 to the Neu-Bamberg stop.

Hiking

The Hiwweltour Eichelberg is an 11.08 km circular hike that begins and ends at the old railway station between Frei-Laubersheim and Neu-Bamberg. Along the old railway line, it passes an active quartz porphyry quarry. The route offers views towards the Neu-Bamberger Heide, the Ajaxturm and the castle ruins in Neu-Bamberg. It is classified as moderately difficult and has steeper sections when ascending and descending the Eichelberg.

Neu-Bamberg offers guided hikes on the Hiwweltour Heideblick and the Hiwweltour Eichelberg.

Wine

The name of the Neu-Bamberger Eichelberg vineyard site is documented for the year 1521 as “am Eichelberg”.
