Hackenheim: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hackenheim Kirchberg is an individual vineyard site in the Hackenheim cadastral area. The 74-hectare vineyard site lies at an elevation of 175 to 220 meters. Its marl/Pelosol soils consist of calcareous clay deposits; various grape varieties grow in this clay marl. The local community holds an annual wine festival there.

History

The historic Darmstädter Hof near Hackenheim served as a customs station after the Congress of Vienna. Wine was one of the main products among the taxable goods there; its low price on the Hessian side contributed to smuggling. The estate was also associated with an annual autumn ball for the Jewish population of the surrounding area. The former execution site is now located in the middle of the Hackenheim vineyards and is no longer recognizable as a historic execution site.

Culture

The local church landscape includes St. Michael's Church and the former central Catholic church, which is now used as the Protestant Church of Christ, as well as St. Michael's Chapel on Kirchberg. The chapel is also called Michaelskapelle and Hackenheimer Kapell'sche; it commemorates the Catholic church that once stood there and is a destination for walks. The first parish church at this site dates from around 1200.

Nature and Trails

A moderately difficult circular hike from Hackenheim leads through the vineyards via St. Michael's Chapel and St. Catherine's Chapel, continuing into the Bad Kreuznach municipal forest and the Am Grubenkopf nature reserve. The return route passes through the Katharinenwald forest. The route is 14.2 kilometers long and takes about four hours.

Food and Wine

The Bonnheimer Hof offers private wine evenings and wine tastings. The wine shop there also offers direct sales.
