Silberg combines protected natural landscapes with distinctive cultural sites. Those looking for a holiday apartment for varied days will find plenty of opportunities here to explore nature, go hiking and discover regional history. The Dollenbruch nature reserve lies between Brachthausen and Silberg. Moor forests, alder forests and open grassland areas with wet meadows and purple moor-grass meadows shape the landscape. The area also includes FFH sites; around 98 hectares provide valuable habitat for many rare and endangered animal and plant species.

Nature experiences around Silberg

Themed hiking trail “Border Stories Up Close” is 4.5 km long and leads through the Dollenbruch nature reserve. Along the way, podcast anecdotes bring the cultural and natural history to life. This allows you to complement your stay in Silberg with a clearly defined hike without devoting the entire day exclusively to a museum or a visit to the village.

A longer option is the circular trail “Natural Treasures at the Kölsches Heck”. The 9.2 km, family-friendly route starts and ends in Silberg, takes around 2.5 hours and leads through the Sellenbruch and Dollenbruch nature reserves. The circular trail is also culturally interesting. The marked route also runs south along Müsener Straße to the so-called “Kölsches Heck”. Depending on your preferred schedule for the day, you can therefore choose between a shorter themed hike and a longer circular route.

Culture at Schrabben Hof and in the Village

An important cultural site is Schrabben Hof. The building complex, most of which has been protected as a historic monument since 2002, was set up from 2003 onwards as a meeting place for social and cultural gatherings. The museum at Schrabben Hof features an exhibition on agriculture, Hauberg forestry, horse-drawn vehicles and traditional crafts. The complex also includes the bakery at Hof Schrabben in Silberg, a historic building dating from the 18th century.

The local heritage museum in Silberg also has its own distinctive profile: its intimate theatre has become a centre for theatre, music, literature and artistic activities. Since 2021, Silberg Church has also served as a cultural church alongside its liturgical function. Exhibitions, readings and concerts are held there. It was also agreed that the Way of the Cross from Weidenau would be handed over to the cultural church as a permanent loan. These various sites make Silberg appealing to travellers who want to combine days in nature with regional culture.

Silberg as a Base for Planning Your Trip

When looking for a holiday apartment in Silberg, you can first consider which experiences should define your stay. Those who prefer a hike that starts and ends in the village can plan the circular trail “Natural Treasures at the Kölsches Heck”. For a shorter exploration of nature and history, “Border Stories Up Close” is a good option. If culture is your main focus, you can include Schrabben Hof, the local heritage museum and the cultural church in your personal travel plans.

There are also specific points of reference when travelling by public transport: Bus route R 92 towards Brachthausen stops at the Silberg-Müsener Straße bus stop. Bus route R 91 runs to the Kirchhundem-Silberg, Ort stop, which is just a few metres from Schrabben Hof. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore take the appropriate arrival route into account alongside your preferred destinations for the day.
