Oedingen has an official Historic Trail that follows a circular route of 8.5 km, for which a duration of approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes is indicated. The route includes 15 historic stations, views across the Elspe Valley and varied natural scenery. Along its course, it connects wooded and open landscapes, a wooded valley section with flowing water, as well as viewpoints in the direction of the Elspe Valley.

The Historic Trail starts and ends at the parking area by the Schützenhalle in Oedingen. Sturdy footwear is recommended for the route; some sections run along roads, and basic sure-footedness is required for the paths around the Alte Burg. For travel by public transport, take the train to Grevenbrück and then the local bus line L512 to Oedingen.

Culture and History

The historic stations along the trail include St. John's Chapel on the Oedingerberg, the Lintloe Fountain, the manor house at the Alte Burg ruins, the Madonna der Straße wayside shrine and an interpretation point on the former Sauerland barracks. St. John's Chapel on the Oedingerberg is a Baroque chapel whose construction was initiated in 1716. During its restoration, a column from a 13th-century monastic complex was uncovered; inside, there is a Baroque altarpiece.

The present parish church of Oedingen was built in 1832 and preserves the tower of the former church, whose history can be traced back to around the year 1000.
