Cyclists have several options for exploring the city. The Rhine dike cycle path crosses Meerbusch from the Krefeld city boundary in the north to the Düsseldorf city boundary near Lörick in the south. The 38-kilometre Stadt-Land-Fluss route follows a different course: it starts at Osterath station and loops around the entire city area. The two routes therefore differ in their stated directions: one runs through Meerbusch, while the other circles the city area.

Culture, mills and traces of history

The Forum Wasserturm is in the heart of the Lank-Latum district. Its programme includes cabaret, variety performances, comedy, theatre, cinema and concerts. The “Lotumer Buretheater” has its own tradition: its season at the Forum Wasserturm starts every year in October and features theatre in the local Platt dialect. If you are interested in the performing arts, Meerbusch offers both a wide range of events and a local theatre tradition.

Also in Lank-Latum is the Teloy Mill, the only mill in Meerbusch with fully restored sails. Today, it is used as an exhibition venue and meeting place. Gut Dyckhof, in turn, is a castle complex surrounded by moats, first documented in 1393. In their different ways, these places tell the story of architectural history and present-day cultural use.

The listed ensemble of the Haus Meer park includes the foundation walls of the old coach house, the “Teehäuschen” garden pavilion, the ice cellar, the wall surrounding the former abbey precinct, and the foundation remains and vaulted cellar of the former Meer Abbey. The Alter-Kirchturm memorial is a distinctive combination of art and public space: it is considered Joseph Beuys’s only complete work of art in a public space outside a museum setting.

Excursions for different interests

The grounds of the Arche Noah youth farm include animal houses, animal enclosures, aviaries and ponds with bridges and walkways. There is also a pony-riding track and play areas with swings, slides, carousels and ride-on vehicles.
