Reifferscheid Castle is a freely accessible medieval hilltop castle complex. It includes the castle ruins, the outer bailey, and the fortified settlement. The oldest surviving parts of the castle date from the 12th to the 13th century.

St. Matthias is part of Reifferscheid’s medieval heritage and contains the burial place of the Counts of Salm-Reifferscheidt. The church is described as a late Gothic church.

Getting Around

There is parking available in front of the castle grounds on Burgstraße in Hellenthal-Reifferscheid. A historical tour with around seven stations leads through the castle grounds and provides information about the castle complex.
