Cycling through Vierow and beyond

The Baltic Coast Cycle Route passes through Vierow and continues to Greifswald and the island of Usedom. This gives you a clear direction for planning your trip: Vierow lies on a cycle route connecting these two destinations. You can decide whether to focus your cycling days on the village itself or include further stages to Greifswald or Usedom. These destinations describe the route of the cycle path; on their own, they do not indicate a specific travel time.

One cycle tour runs from the Teufelsstein car park along a field path to Vierow harbour. Alternatively, it follows the cycle path beside the road to Vierow and then continues through the village to Gahlkow. This gives you two different route options: one via a field path to the harbour, the other along the road and onward through Vierow to Gahlkow. If you are travelling with your family, you can decide together which of these routes best suits the outing you have in mind.

Natural beach and Bodden landscape

Vierow Natural Beach is located close to the small industrial harbour of Vierow and about 2 km from the village of Vierow. It can be reached via a walking and cycling path. The approximate distance helps you consider the beach as a separate destination when planning your trip; it is not a distance from any particular accommodation. When choosing a holiday apartment, you may therefore want to consider whether you would rather focus your stay on cycling tours and excursions or on a visit to the natural beach.

On its seaward side, the grounds of Vierow harbour border the Natura 2000 site “Greifswalder Bodden, Teile des Strelasundes und Nordspitze Usedom” (Greifswald Bodden, parts of the Strelasund and the northern tip of Usedom). In the area around the destination, migratory birds rest in the shallow waters of the Greifswald Bodden in spring and autumn, gathering there before continuing their journey. If you choose when to travel with bird migrations in mind, this offers a special seasonal connection to the landscape. The migratory birds and shallow waters are part of this description of the Bodden area; they are a different focus from the routes through Vierow.

Traces of history and culture

A drawing by Caspar David Friedrich dated 3 June 1818 depicts two fishing boats and nets hung out to dry at Vierow Natural Beach. Its specific subject connects the beach with a historical depiction of everyday fishing life, with boats and nets at its centre. The drawing thus offers a distinct cultural perspective on Vierow, alongside today's cycle network and the natural features of the Bodden.

In Stilow, a manor house is a listed building.
