Geographical Location

Rothemühl lies 13 kilometres southwest of Torgelow, on the southwestern edge of the Ueckermünde Heath and south of the Friedland Great Meadow, in gently flat terrain.

Immediately south of Rothemühl rises the terminal moraine chain of the Brohmer Mountains; at Schanzenberg, it reaches 125 metres above sea level.

In 1454, a customs station and an inn were operated at Roden Born on the border with the Uckermark.

The settlement was first mentioned as Roden Born in 1507; at that time, there were eight smallholder farms and an inn there. After 1580, a watermill was built there.
