Almost four kilometres of fine sandy beach, an extensive shallow-water area and many different things to discover define Trassenheide. The town combines time at the beach with nature experiences and activities for active days. Beach Days and Time Outdoors
The beach offers opportunities for play and sports; the shallow-water area makes swimming especially enjoyable for families with children. From May to September, lifeguards from the German Lifesaving Association provide safety at Trassenheide’s main beach and at the beach section by the “Ostseeblick” campsite. The beach promenade features a sculpture park, a play area with an adventure playground and a quiet zone. The activities described at the beach therefore include both exercise and play, as well as a more peaceful stay.
There is also plenty to discover in Trassenheide beyond the beach. The “World of Sand” sand sculpture exhibition is located at Wiesenweg 1. “The World Upside Down” has been a tourist attraction in the Baltic Sea resort since 2008: visitors view a living space from an unusual, upside-down perspective. Learning and experience trails with changing themes complement a visit to the outdoor area.
Experiences for Different Interests
At Usedom Park “Kinderland,” attractions include a carousel, a train, a bouncy castle and a trampoline. Visitors can also climb a lighthouse and enjoy Western-style rides. The site covers 10,000 square metres and offers numerous attractions. “Pirateninsel Usedom” is another play and adventure park in Trassenheide; it covers 13,000 square metres.
“Europe’s Largest Butterfly Farm” has a 2,600-square-metre free-flight hall with 1,500 to 2,000 butterflies from tropical regions. You can observe their life stages there all year round, from egg to caterpillar and pupa to butterfly. This makes a visit interesting for anyone who is curious about nature and how animals develop.
At the sports beach, the Island Surf Usedom team offers introductory and multi-day courses in windsurfing, surfing and stand-up paddleboarding. The courses also include practice in changing course and performing various manoeuvres. If you would like to include guided island explorations in your trip, you can choose from tours led by Usedom tour guides by bike or on foot, or accompanied by a tour bus. These tours can also include the surrounding mainland.
Explore Nature and Plan Excursions
The surrounding nature around Trassenheide, with its coastal forest and meadows towards the Peenestrom, is best explored on foot or by bike. The designated Baltic Coast Nature Trail stretches for around 60 kilometres. Its 75 information boards are in German, English and Polish. For a shorter GPS-guided nature tour, there is “Fiete’s Adventure Route through Trassenheide,” which takes around 2 to 3 hours. The brochure created for the route is available from the tourist information office or online.
Trassenheide is centrally connected to the island of Usedom’s cycling and hiking trail network and is a suitable starting point for day trips around the island. Bikes and e-bikes can be hired right in town. Depending on your interests, you can combine your stay with cycling, hiking or guided excursions.
