Putgarten is the northernmost municipality in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Nature

The municipality is located in the northeastern part of the Wittow peninsula on Rügen, between the Tromper Wiek in the east and the open Baltic Sea in the north.

Putgarten has a gently hilly, largely open landscape that is predominantly used for agriculture. There are coastal forests in the north and east.

The highest elevations are located near Kap Arkona and rise to just over 40 metres. There, the steep coast drops sharply to the Baltic Sea.
