A church with layers from different eras

The church is the oldest building in the village. Its components point to different dates: the nave was built around 1406, while the choir's fully preserved roof truss dates to 1390. A carved beam about six metres long, reused from an earlier structure, has also been preserved in the choir roof. The wood of this beam has been dated to around 1200. The church tower was added in 1805.

The interior furnishings are also part of the building's history: the church has a Neo-Gothic interior dating from the mid-19th century. This includes the altar and pulpit, as well as the pews, wooden ceiling and gallery. Thus, components and furnishings from different periods stand side by side in one building. Anyone interested in architecture and historical details will find several specific features here that can be distinguished from one another.

Rectory, garden and wheelwright's workshop

The Pokrent rectory dates from 1760. Its garden was laid out in 1796 and is now used as a park-like setting for community events. Thus, the historic village scene includes not only individual buildings, but also a garden with its own date and a present-day use at such events.

Another example of local architectural history is the wheelwright's workshop on Dorfstraße. Built in 1857, the brick building has a rectangular floor plan, one and a half storeys and a shallow pitched roof. It is gable-end facing the street and articulated with pilaster strips; the façade has seven bays. Hermann Möglichhausen is named as the architect. These precise features give the building a profile distinct from that of the church and the rectory.

Remains of the rampart and moat of the medieval Mikenborg Castle have been preserved. They are designated as an archaeological monument. This adds another historical trace, preserved in the shape of the land, to the buildings that still stand.

Neuendorfer Moor and Blood Beech Avenue

The Neuendorfer Moor nature reserve is part of the Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve. It comprises mainly land within the municipality of Pokrent, in the Neuendorf cadastral district, and covers a total area of about 161 hectares. The moor is one of the few raised bogs in western Mecklenburg. Its distinctive landscape contrasts sharply with the village's historic buildings and offers a different perspective on the area around Pokrent.

Another landscape feature connects Pokrent with Renzow: the Blood Beech Avenue route runs between the two places alongside Europe's only surviving avenue of copper beeches. The striking feature is the play of colours in the leaves. Anyone interested in nature and distinctive trees can consider this route as a focus in its own right, alongside the village's history.

Crafts and holiday interests

The small Keramik am Wald pottery is also among Pokrent's notable features. It makes handmade ceramics for everyday use and the garden, both functional and decorative. This complements the historical and landscape themes with a contemporary craft producing practical and artistic pieces.
