The manor house and local history
The manor house was built in 1826 as a single-storey rendered building and today serves as the cultural centre of Gotthun. The CJD runs traditional craft workshops in the manor house, where Mecklenburg customs are kept alive. The workshops are open to all visitors. Alongside the landscape, the village’s living regional traditions are therefore another part of what it has to offer.
The Schamper Mill is also located near Gotthun. A watermill stood there until 1810; a Dutch-style windmill was built in 1810 and remained in use until 1965. Today it is a listed monument. The succession of watermill and Dutch-style windmill gives the mill its own historical significance. Together with the manor house, it offers a way to explore the area’s cultural history, while the Müritz and its trails are the main focus of the landscape.
