Hohenzieritz Palace and the Luise Memorial

Hohenzieritz Palace was built between 1746 and 1751 as a single-storey Baroque building. The Luise Memorial in the palace is open to visitors. Its exhibition, redesigned in June 2017, tells the story of Queen Luise’s life and death, her legend and the history of the memorial. Visitors can enter the front area of the death chamber.

Visitors can also take part personally: a replica of the autograph panels allows them to continue the historic autograph tradition and leave their own mark. The memorial also offers museum education activities for children. This means that, alongside the exhibition, there are practical opportunities to explore and take part, so a visit need not be limited to viewing the architecture.

Park, round church and paths

Hohenzieritz Park was laid out from 1771 on the orders of Duke Carl II and is one of the earliest English landscape parks on the European continent. The 1806 round church is also part of the Hohenzieritz Palace ensemble. It stands at the beginning of the avenue leading to the palace. The park, palace and church reflect different periods and offer several starting points for a history-focused stay.

A designated pilgrimage route passes through the palace park, by the palace and behind the round church to the village street. The cycle tour “In the Footsteps of Queen Luise of Prussia” offers another perspective and leads to Hohenzieritz. The Luise Memorial is located in the queen’s death chamber.

The municipality’s landscape

The landscape beyond the palace grounds is also part of the character of a stay here: the municipality of Hohenzieritz, including the villages of Prillwitz and Zippelow, is situated in an attractive terminal moraine landscape.
