Eldena’s character is shaped by the Müritz-Elde Waterway, a marina and traces of local history. Waterway, lock and marina

The Müritz-Elde Waterway runs through Eldena, and there is a lock in the town. Motorboats and rowboats are available to rent at the marina. This offers different ways to experience the area from the water: motorboats and rowboats are distinct options, but no specific route or journey duration can be inferred from this. If you prefer to plan your trip around cycling, there’s another point of interest: the marina is on the Mecklenburg Lake District Cycle Route.

Church and historic traces

On a stroll through Eldena, you can see the neo-Gothic St. John’s Church. St. John’s Church is used as a place of worship by the Eldena parish. So it’s not only one of the buildings that catch your eye on a walk, but also has a role in parish life. If you’re interested in churches and local history, you can include these aspects in your exploration of Eldena.

A listed building stands at Altonaer Straße 2. Its vaulted cellar is a remnant of the former monastery complex and is listed as a fragment of a vaulted cellar in the heritage register of Ludwigslust district. The former monastery complex is thus represented here by a surviving fragment. The railway station building at Bahnhofstraße 24 is also included in this heritage register, along with its paved forecourt. The two sites offer different historical points of interest: a vaulted cellar connected with the former monastery complex, and a railway station building with its paved forecourt.

Little discoveries at the marina and around town

A newly built round-log café is located at the marina. It serves coffee, homemade cakes and tortes, as well as ice cream and drinks every day. The café adds a place to take a break to the marina’s offerings. If you’re planning to visit the marina for boat hire or the Mecklenburg Lake District Cycle Route, you’ll also find somewhere to eat and drink there.

The Alte Molkerei offers another way to discover Eldena. Its selection changes weekly and includes small items and larger pieces of jewellery, as well as household goods, tools, gardening accessories and clothing. The changing selection makes a visit different from browsing a fixed range: alongside jewellery, you’ll find a wide variety of everyday items and useful goods.
