Sanitz
Accommodation in Sanitz
Sanitz offers several ways to experience a stay: historic buildings and art, a longer circular cycling route, and a walking path through the forest. There are also regional products and the local history room in the community centre. Which of these aspects particularly interests you may also shape your choice of a holiday apartment or holiday house in Sanitz.

Church, half-timbered buildings and art history
Sanitz village church was built in the 13th century. Its imposing fieldstone structure and half-timbered tower give the building a distinctive architectural character. Inside is an altar with paintings by Rudolph Suhrlandt dating from around 1800. The church thus brings together medieval architectural history and later artistic additions. Anyone interested in architectural styles and historic art will find two distinct aspects in one place.
The Old Forge is another notable historic building: it was first mentioned in official records in 1798 and is a late Baroque oak half-timbered building. However, access is important to bear in mind when planning a visit: the courtyard is a listed monument, is on private property and cannot be visited directly. The forge is therefore part of the historic streetscape, not an accessible visitor attraction.
Another point of cultural and historical interest is the manor house at Groß Lüsewitz Castle. It was built between 1896 and 1898 in the Neo-Renaissance style. A landscaped park adjoins the manor house; after 1970, it was extended to include an equestrian competition venue. The manor house has been privately owned since 2013 and opens for certain events, such as Heritage Day in September. If you are planning a visit, this event schedule is a key consideration.
The Sanitz Local History Room is part of the Sanitz Community Centre and provides another cultural point of interest alongside the historic buildings. You can take it into account when considering a stay with an interest in local history. Together, the village church, forge, manor house and local history room show different facets of the area’s architectural and local history, but do not form a single tour.
Getting around by bike or on foot
For a longer outing, there is a 36-kilometre circular route that starts at Sanitz railway station and returns to Sanitz. The route passes through Wendfeld, Reppelin, Wendorf, Neu-Wendorf, Stormsdorf, Zarnewanz, Tessin and Horst. Its length and the sequence of places give you concrete points of reference for planning your day. If you want to make cycling the focus of your trip, Sanitz is a starting point for a route that takes you beyond the town.
The Kleine Waldrunde Sanitz offers a different way to experience the surroundings. The walking trail leads north from the old village through woodland and along sandy clearings. Rather than a circular route through several named places, the focus here is on the path through the forest. You can choose between a longer bike ride and a walk along sandy paths, depending on which activity you would like to include in your stay.
Getting oriented and finding regional products
For arrival and local transport planning, the municipal website has a search for train connections to and from Sanitz ZOB. The mobility page also provides a general overview of bus departure times from Sanitz ZOB. The starting point of the cycling route described here is Sanitz railway station; the information about the ZOB concerns the search for connections and bus departures. These two points of reference can help you plan your arrival and a cycling outing separately.
The Sanitz farm shop offers a wide range of fresh regional products. If local food is among your travel interests, you can take this into account when planning your stay. This way, you can choose Sanitz based on the experiences you actually want to enjoy, rather than deciding solely on the type of accommodation.
More places to consider when planning your trip: Amt Rostocker Heide, Graal-Muritz, Reppelin, Warnemünde, Kavelstorf, Kowalz, Amt Mecklenburgische Schweiz and Amt Güstrow-Land.
