The outdoor swimming pool at Elm in Hemkenrode offers a chance to cool off in summer. As it is a seasonal facility, check that it is open before your visit. The post mill in Abbenrode was built in 1880. The mill association organizes numerous guided tours there for school classes and private groups. Coordinate plans for a tour with the association.
Another event is the equestrian tournament at the Unterburg in Destedt, held annually by the Cremlingen Riding and Driving Club since 2016. In June 2026, the municipality announced the completion of a cycle path connecting Cremlingen and Hordorf. These two details offer different points of reference: a connection between Cremlingen and Hordorf, and the course of a named route through Weddel.
The Schandelah-Wohld Memorial Site commemorates a concentration camp that existed from May 1944 to April 1945. A different theme was featured at the Jurameer Schandelah Geopoint nature trail during Geotope Day 2026: visitors could walk through the shady forest and learn more about the area's geological history. In the Wider Wolfenbüttel Destination
The Elm-Lappwald Nature Park offers a distinct nature experience in the wider Wolfenbüttel destination. It extends across the districts of Wolfenbüttel and Helmstedt, covers 470 square kilometers, and brings together extensive forests, valleys, protected wetlands, heathland, spring-fed rivers, and small lakes. Away from the main roads, the nature park invites visitors to hike, cycle, and explore. Its network of hiking trails covers around 500 kilometers and includes signposted circular routes, parking areas, and shelters. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
The Eulenspiegel Tourist Route is another regional theme: it is around 170 kilometers long and connects Braunschweig, Wolfenbüttel, Schöppenstedt, and Helmstedt. Wolfenbüttel's cultural attractions offer a different way to explore the area. The historic half-timbered old town has around 1,000 half-timbered houses. Wolfenbüttel Castle is the second-largest castle in Lower Saxony and developed from a medieval moated castle. The Herzog August Library was founded in 1572 and is regarded as the “eighth wonder of the world.”
