Jade combines nature experiences in the moor and salt marshes with culture, art and an amusement park. The Floating Moor near Sehestedt offers a glimpse of a unique landscape, while the salt marsh adventure trail leads through the landscape around Jade Bay. The church, Gulfhaus and artists’ association add their own cultural touches. When planning a trip, you can cater to a range of interests rather than reducing Jade to a single type of outing.

Discover the moor, salt marshes and tidal flats

The Floating Moor near Sehestedt is a remnant raised bog in front of the North Sea coastal dike. It can be accessed via a 150-metre-long boardwalk. The salt marsh adventure trail in Sehestedt is a five-kilometre circular route, which takes about one and a half to two hours on foot. More than 30 information panels along the trail explain the natural history of Jade Bay. The route’s length, approximate walking time and the panels’ subject matter provide a clear framework for planning your day.

The trail leads from the Floating Moor through the salt marshes to the Wadden Sea, then back to the dike via Sehestedt beach. Its route through different landscapes is another highlight alongside the circular walk itself. Those interested in how Jade Bay formed will find a thematic connection along the way; those mainly looking to experience nature can enjoy the salt marsh and tidal-flat landscape.

The National Park Experience Station’s laboratory container offers another way to take a closer look at the Wadden Sea habitat: it houses small aquariums, and magnifying glasses, binocular microscopes and binoculars can be used to explore life in the Wadden Sea. Information at the station is available from May to September; check the current seasonal arrangements before your visit.

Church, Gulfhaus and art

Jade’s cultural venues also offer a variety of experiences. The Trinity Church has had its present appearance since the late 17th century. Schönhof Gallery is housed in a Gulfhaus dating from 1872 and has an adjoining blue-printing workshop. Architecture and craftsmanship come together under one roof here. Since its founding in 1991, the Jan Oeltjen Artists’ House Association has focused primarily on the work of artist Jan Oeltjen. Together, the church, gallery and artists’ association add a cultural dimension to your trip that is distinct from the nature experiences.

Another focus for an outing

Jaderpark offers a climbing and water world, numerous rides and encounters with exotic animals. Regional descriptions also highlight the “Grizzly Adventure” climbing and water experience, a roller coaster and a log flume. Nature, culture and an amusement park thus offer different options for a trip to Jade.

The Wesermarsch as a wider travel destination

Beyond Jade, the wider Wesermarsch travel destination offers further perspectives. The Wesermarsch is characterised by 60 kilometres of Wadden Sea coastline and 90 kilometres of riverbanks along the Weser and Hunte. Its North Sea coast includes beaches and nature reserves suited to relaxation, walks and water sports. The region is also a popular destination for cyclists: the Deutsche Sielroute is a circular cycling route through the Wesermarsch, offering a way to experience marshland and moor, sluices, harbours and towns along the Weser and North Sea coast. Its flat route is particularly suitable for cycling trips with children or on an e-bike.

When choosing your search area, it helps to set a simple priority: would you like Jade itself, with its moor, salt marshes, culture and Jaderpark, to be the focus, or would you prefer to plan your vacation around the wider Wesermarsch region, with its coastline and cycling routes?
