Wendisch Evern is connected to a chapter of European history centered around Timeloberg Hill.
Timeloberg Hill near Wendisch Evern was the site where, on 4 May 1945, a Wehrmacht delegation signed the unconditional surrender of the German troops in Holland, northwestern Germany, Schleswig-Holstein and Denmark. Montgomery called the hill “Victory Hill”. The surrender at Timeloberg was the event that initiated the end of the Second World War in Europe and the liberation from Nazi rule. Timeloberg was selected as the site of the surrender because it was the highest elevation in the area around Lüneburg. A memorial stone was erected at the foot of Timeloberg in 1995; the summit remains part of a military training area.
The annual ZeitlosLauf at Timeloberg was initiated by residents of Wendisch Evern and has taken place since 2006. It commemorates the surrender and is intended to promote international understanding.
The Lüneburg Ilmenau Lowlands with Tiergarten nature reserve extends across Wendisch Evern, Deutsch Evern and Melbeck. Its conservation objectives include preserving the near-natural watercourse of the Ilmenau and its tributaries.
