Halle is located in the Ithbörde, a scenic area on the northwestern edge of the Alfelder Bergland. Ith and Hils are part of the Weser-Leine Uplands. This landscape is a 17-kilometre-long and 3–5-kilometre-wide north–south depression between the Ith and Vogler ridges.
The Ith FFH area is an extensive woodland stretching along the Ith ridge in the Ith-Hils hill country. The steep slopes of the Ith feature limestone cliffs with crevice vegetation, pioneer limestone grasslands, ravine and slope mixed forests, as well as small caves. Pöttchergrund is a valley cut by a stream into the southwestern slope of the central Ith, with wetland habitats.
Halle is enclosed by the Tönniesberg, Kruckberg and Ith. The villages in the municipality of Halle have preserved their rural character and continue to be shaped by agriculture.
The Ithbörde around Halle is suitable for extensive hiking tours. Themed hiking trails in the Ithbörde explain the geology of the area. The steep rock faces of the Ith cliffs are known among climbers throughout Germany.
