The Scharmbeck Harvest Festival is a traditional, four-day harvest festival held annually around the first Sunday in September and celebrated since 1949. The festival procession features around 20 elaborately designed themed harvest floats, which are predominantly pulled by vintage tractors; marching bands and walking groups accompany the procession. The festival also includes a straw castle measuring around 300 square metres, with tunnels, niches and straw-bale caves. Free activities for children include inflatable attractions, climbing, a craft workshop and face painting.
A Scharmbeck tradition of its own is the annual election of a local king and queen. A children’s king and queen are also elected during the children’s afternoon. The tradition for adults dates back to 1949, while the children’s version dates back to 1955.
