From 1495 to 1500, Sehusa Castle was the residence of Duchess Margaret, the widow of Duke William I of Brunswick. The former Sehusa Castle was an important part of the town’s medieval settlement history and is described as a landmark of the town. Sehusa Castle was first recorded in a document dating from 1282 and was known at the time as the Guelph castle “castrum sehusen”.
