At the Lautenthals Glück Mining Museum, visitors can travel into the mine tunnels by train. The museum’s ore shipping experience is a hands-on boat ride powered by the visitors. The Steinway Trail presents the history of the Steinway family.
The circular hiking trail at the Granetalsperre reservoir begins at the car park next to the dam. It follows asphalt or gravel paths and has only gentle inclines. At a viewpoint overlooking the reservoir and the dam, it reaches checkpoint 110 of the Harzer Wandernadel hiking badge system.
The Granetalsperre reservoir can store up to 46.4 million cubic metres of water. The Harzwasserwerke use it to supply large parts of Lower Saxony with drinking water. An exhibition in the Harzwasserwerke waterworks next to the dam provides insights into the subject of water. Sculptures and reliefs made from local diabase blocks stand at the viewpoints along the Trail of Stones.
The L1 Kleine Wasser-Tour starts at Langelsheim railway station. The L1 route crosses the northern Harz foothills to the Innerstetalsperre reservoir; as a loop, it returns to Langelsheim via the dam after climbing through the deciduous and mixed forests of the North Harz.
Wölfi-Bad is a 15,000-square-metre forest swimming pool with pools for swimmers, non-swimmers and children. The Innerstetalsperre reservoir is used for surfing and sailing. The network of paths in Wolfshagen Im Harz connects the district with the Innerstetalsperre and Granetalsperre reservoirs.
The Granetalsperre reservoir can be reached from Langelsheim via the B82 towards Herzog-Juliushütte and Astfeld. Langelsheim has direct train connections to Göttingen, Holzminden, Goslar and Bad Harzburg. Direct bus connections run to Goslar, Wolfshagen and Lautenthal.
