Culture

The Ahmsen Forest Stage is located in a forest on the outskirts of Ahmsen. Religious plays and fairy-tale performances have been staged there since 1949. Every year, from the beginning of May to mid-September, the programme includes a play and a family musical. The auditorium of the Ahmsen Forest Stage is fully covered.

Lähden is home to a bell tower dating from 1700, described as the oldest in the village. Remains of a stone grave in Lähden have survived, recalling earlier times. Herßum has the Teepohl, a restored pond. Herßum is also home to a wayside cross dating from the 18th century, which is connected with the history of the village. St Clement's Church in Holte features Baroque wood carvings, while Vinnen is home to St Anthony's Church, built in 1853. The former Marist monastery in Ahmsen dates from 1922 and is now a youth monastery.

Nature

The Lähden Natural History House presents the local animal and plant life with specimens, display panels and examples from the forest, fields, air and water. The centre also includes a diorama showing a cross-section of a river. The outdoor facilities include a herb garden, a tree trail and an insect hotel.

Outside school lessons, the Lähden Natural History House is used for nature and environmental education and serves as an additional point of contact for local clubs and groups. Visits and bookings are arranged by agreement.

Cycling

The Art Route is 63 kilometres long and is described as a very easy cycling tour. Lähden and Ahmsen are stages of the Art Route. The Lähden Natural History House is a stop along the route where local animal and plant life can be experienced indoors and outdoors. On the Emsland Route, the Lähden Natural History House is one of the attractions associated with Herzlake.
