Wremen: Green Beach, Wadden Sea and Maritime Discoveries
Accommodation in Wremen
Wremen brings together the North Sea, the Wadden Sea and maritime history within a compact area. Wremen Beach is a North Sea green beach resort located directly on the dyke in front of the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea. It is complemented by a traditional cutter harbour, a distinctive lighthouse and paths along which you can get to know the village on foot. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Wremen, it is therefore worth considering first which experiences you want your holiday to centre on: mudflats and water, maritime culture or walks through the village.
Green beach, mudflats and shallow water
At Wremen Beach, you can experience the Wadden Sea as part of guided mudflat walks. Such a tour provides direct access to this unique landscape without requiring you to limit your holiday to beach days alone. The water at Wremen Beach is shallow and is particularly popular with families. This makes the beach a specific point of reference when planning your trip if spending time together by the water is among your desired holiday experiences.
The dyke and the Wadden Sea also give Wremen its distinctive character. From the “Kleiner Preuße” lighthouse, there is an excellent view of the Weser estuary. The lighthouse stands at the entrance to Wremen Harbour and can be reached via the signposted Sturmweg trail. This leads from the visitor centre in Wremen along the cutter harbour to the “Kleiner Preuße”.
Maritime history in the village
Wremen also has noteworthy points of interest away from the beach and mudflats. St. Willehadi Church is the largest and oldest church in the Wurster Land region. Anyone interested in the history of the coast can gain insights into the history and conditions of mudflat fishing on the North Sea coast at the Museum of Wadden Fishing. The centrepiece of the museum is the “MS Koralle”, a former cutter that can be viewed ashore there.
Wremen Cutter Harbour is the oldest and southernmost cutter harbour on the Wurster coast. This is also part of the village’s character: its maritime past is not merely a museum subject, but can be experienced at various locations through the harbour, cutter and lighthouse. Excursion trips to the container pier in Bremerhaven and fishing trips are possible on the “Claudia” shrimp cutter. The cutter was converted for guest trips, combining maritime insight with an excursion experience of its own.
Paths for different types of holiday days
For a quieter introduction to the surrounding area, the signposted village trail is a good option. The circular route leads through maritime Wremen and is suitable for beginners. If, on the other hand, you want to connect the harbour, lighthouse and Wremen Harbour entrance, you can include the Sturmweg trail in your plans. This allows you to distinguish between different ideas for a day: a tour through the village, a walk along the harbour or time at the beach with a guided mudflat walk.
Planning accommodation and travel
When choosing your accommodation, you can take these different priorities into account. A holiday apartment or holiday home in Wremen is particularly suitable if you would like to explore the village as a base for maritime discoveries, beach days and walks. If travelling by train, Wremen railway station can be reached with the EVB regional railway. This connection may be important for your travel planning if you want to reach Wremen by regional train.
