The Angela von Barßel is a museum ship that was built in 1896 as a tjalk at the A. Mulder shipyard in Stadskanaal, the Netherlands. Barßel lies within the triangle formed by the districts of Cloppenburg, Ammerland and Leer.
In 1985 and 1986, the Angela von Barßel was restored by members of its support association. Since 2008, it has been listed in Lower Saxony as a movable monument. Excursions and special trips can be booked on the museum ship.
The Ebkenssche Windmill is a three-storey Dutch windmill with a runner mill and an oil press; it was built in 1892. The Moor and Fehn Museum Elisabethfehn explains how raised bogs formed and how people shaped the landscape around Elisabethfehn. The museum also displays large peat extraction machines and canal boats, has a bog educational garden and a bog water-level plateau, and features a tea room serving bog-themed food and drinks. It is directly connected to the bridges and lock of the Elisabethfehn Canal as part of a historic ensemble.
The Elisabethfehn Canal has six lifting bridges and four manually operated locks. It is described as Germany's only remaining fully navigable Fehn canal. Trips on the MS Spitzhörn take place on the Barßeler Tief, the Jümme and the Soeste. The waterways around Barßel are subject to the tides; the tidal range in Barßel harbour is about one metre.
Four tourist-themed routes meet at Dreibrücken: the German Fehn Route, the Cloppenburg Cycling Tour, the Moor Experience Route and the Boxenstop Route. In the Barßel-Saterland recreational area, self-planned cycling tours of around 20 or 80 kilometres are available along rivers, canals, bogs and dykes.
Harkebrügge Barefoot Park offers 60 barefoot stations in a woodland setting.
