Delkenheim: Wickerbach, Orchards and Local History
Accommodation in Delkenheim
Delkenheim combines open fields, vineyards and orchards with the tree-lined Wickerbach, which flows through the middle of the town. There is also a Regional Park trail, a long local history and a public short golf course. This mix offers different ways to shape a stay: time outdoors, insights into local heritage or a round of golf.
Landscape along the Wickerbach
The landscape around Delkenheim includes farmland, vineyards and orchards. The Wickerbach runs through the town between tree-lined banks, offering a different setting from the open land around it. When choosing where to stay, you can therefore enjoy two distinctly different landscapes: the wide-open surroundings and the tree-lined stream running through the middle of Delkenheim.
Walking through the Wickerbach floodplain
The “Through the Wickerbach Floodplain” Regional Park trail starts on Elisabethenstraße in Delkenheim and is around 5.5 kilometres long. It is rated as easy, open year-round and free to use. Its length and rating offer a clear guide if you would like to include a walk in your travel plans. Temporary trail works may affect access, so check the current trail conditions before setting out.
Discover local history
Delkenheim’s parish church was first mentioned in 1299. Delkenheim wine already appears in an Eppstein fief register from 1290. These provide two distinct historical points of reference: the history of the church and the early mention of wine, which is also part of the landscape with its vineyards.
A specific discovery awaits at the local history museum: the 1,300-year-old skeleton “Delki” was found during excavations on Landwehrstraße in 1998 and is now on display there. The local administration’s council chamber is also a cultural venue: since 1985, it has hosted a range of special exhibitions twice a year. The story of the discovery and the changing exhibitions offer different ways to explore local history.
A sporting highlight
The Golf-Club Main-Taunus e.V.’s public 6-hole short course is located in Wiesbaden-Delkenheim and is open to members and guests. At least one player in each group must hold a course permit. Since conditions for guests may change, it is a good idea to check them before playing. This makes golf a distinct activity to include in your stay, separate from a walk through the Wickerbach floodplain.
Choose Delkenheim as your base
For travel by car, the location near major transport routes is a relevant factor: Delkenheim is very close to the A66 and A3 motorways, making it easy to reach. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can weigh this aspect of the location against your local interests. The Wickerbach floodplain offers a route with a set length and difficulty rating; the church, museum discovery and special exhibitions provide different points of interest. Which of these aspects shapes your stay can be a helpful guide when choosing where to stay.
Wiesbaden as a wider travel destination
The wider travel destination of Wiesbaden offers a different historical perspective. The new Kurhaus Wiesbaden was inaugurated in 1907 in the presence of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Its richly decorated rooms include the Wine Salon, with yellow marble, and the Shell Room, with frescoes, shells and pebbles on the walls. Wiesbaden also has a significant surviving cityscape in the Historicist style, thanks to the extensive building activity of the 19th century. Delkenheim’s stream landscape and local history offer a different emphasis from Wiesbaden’s architectural and cultural history.
