Cityscape and distinctive interiors

The extensive building activity of the 19th century gave Wiesbaden a significant, well-preserved cityscape from the Historicist period. If you are interested in architecture, you can also take in the city’s design during your stay. The new Kurhaus Wiesbaden makes a particularly striking impression: it was inaugurated in 1907 in the presence of Emperor Wilhelm II.

The Kurhaus has two rooms with very different designs: the Weinsalon is decorated with yellow marble, while frescoes, shells and pebbles define the walls of the Muschelsaal. These details offer a tangible glimpse of the building’s interior design. When choosing your accommodation, it may help to consider whether you are primarily looking for cultural and architectural impressions during your stay, or whether you would also like to make time for walks in green surroundings and other experiences.

Neroberg: park trails, lookout temple and vineyard

At 245 metres, Neroberg is considered Wiesbaden’s local mountain and offers a wide range of leisure activities. Walking trails wind through a park landscape. The hill is also home to the Monopteros, a small lookout temple in the style of the Italian Renaissance. It is also the site of Wiesbaden’s only vineyard, managed by the Hessische Staatsweingüter Kloster Eberbach. The Neroberg thus brings together parkland, architecture and viticulture; depending on your interests, you can focus on any of these aspects.

The Nerobergbahn takes visitors up to Neroberg in just a few minutes and is powered by water ballast. If you would like to use this means of transport, it offers a distinctive part of the Wiesbaden visitor experience. Another option for a walk is the protected Nerotal park: it connects the city centre with the wooded heights of the Taunus and has trails for walking and relaxation. There is a restaurant at the entrance to the park, serving refreshments and meals.

Market, Wine Week and other experiences

The Wiesbaden weekly market is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dern’sches Gelände in the city centre. If you would like to visit the market, you can take these set market days into account when planning your stay. Rheingau Wine Week offers another opportunity to discover wine and regional products: stalls at Schlossplatz, Dern’sches Gelände and the square in front of Marktkirche invite you to explore offerings from Rheingau winegrowers. Musical performances are also traditionally part of Wine Week.

For those interested in culture, the free MuWi app from Museum Wiesbaden offers audio guides, individual tours and other content. In Wiesbaden-Biebrich, guided tours of the Henkell Freixenet sparkling wine cellars are also available, with four different themes. These offer different ways to explore: an independent visit using the app’s content, or a guided cellar tour.

The Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme combines the historic Irish-Roman bath with a varied sauna area, and offers wellness treatments and massages. This adds a wellness focus to the cultural and scenic experiences. Every year at Pentecost, the Schlosspark of Biebrich Palace hosts the International Equestrian and Driving Tournament. Biebrich Palace itself is a magnificent three-winged Baroque building, built between 1700 and 1750 right on the banks of the Rhine in Wiesbaden’s Biebrich district.
