Machtlos lies on the southern slope of the Richelsdorf Mountains. Since 1983, it has been a state-recognised resort. Forests, meadows, pastures and fields characterise the surrounding area; half-timbered houses and a small village church give the place a rural character.

There are 170 holiday homes and many leisure facilities here.

Hiking Trails and Discoveries in Machtlos

The R 21 hiking trail starts in the centre of Machtlos and is 6.0 km long. In addition, eight circular hiking trails in Ronshausen and the resort of Machtlos are included in a hiking pass, which can be used to earn the Ronshausen hiking badge. For planning, it is worth checking the current conditions for the pass and hiking badge.

The forest information trail in the resort of Machtlos has 25 information boards about the tree and shrub species found there. A large information wall complements them with picture boards about native animals and birds. This trail focuses on plants as well as animals and birds.

The fairy-tale adventure trail starts at the hiking car park of the Ronshausen Holiday Park in the resort of Machtlos, at Bellersberg 11. It is combined with a geocaching route. This gives it a different focus from the forest information trail and the R 21: here, fairy tales and geocaching come together.
