Bremen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Bremen Town Hall and Roland form a UNESCO World Heritage ensemble that represents civic autonomy and sovereignty in the Holy Roman Empire. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Bremen can then continue searching for accommodation.

Cityscape

Bremen’s Old Town Hall was built in the Gothic style at the beginning of the 15th century and renovated in the Weser Renaissance style at the beginning of the 17th century. The Bremen Roland statue dates from 1404 and is 5.5 metres high.

Böttcherstraße was built by Ludwig Roselius between 1922 and 1931; its buildings are a rare example of Expressionist architecture. The Roselius House presents Low German domestic culture and works of art from the Middle Ages through the Baroque period. The Schnoor is a car-free district with more than 100 listed half-timbered houses for residential and craft use. It is considered Bremen’s oldest surviving district and offers a one-hour guided walking tour. At the Bremen Candy Manufactory in the Schnoor, visitors can watch confectioners making sweets and take part in a workshop; some restaurants in the district serve regional dishes such as Labskaus, Knipp and kale.

The Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum is the world’s first museum dedicated to a female painter. Bremen’s Ratskeller combines more than 600 years of history with around 650 German wines and Bremen specialities such as Knipp and Labskaus. The south tower of St Peter’s Cathedral can be climbed and offers views over Bremen.

Nature

The Wallanlagen have been protected as a historic monument since 1977. They were created from Bremen’s former fortifications and were the city’s first public green space created by citizens.

The Borgfeld Wümme Meadows cover 677 hectares, have been protected since 1987 and are designated as an EU Special Protection Area for birds. Bremen’s official tourism information describes them as the city’s largest nature reserve. Paths along the Wümme Meadows allow for walks and bicycle tours; a lookout tower at Hollerdeich offers views across the fields.

Blockland is one of the few areas of Bremen where livestock farming is still practised today. In Blockland’s original thatched-roof houses, farm cafés and farm shops offer stops for coffee and cake in green farm gardens. Along the Wümmedeich, there are opportunities for walking, cycling and inline skating with views of the surrounding landscape.

Things to Do

A hiking tour of approximately 12 kilometres leads through the Bürgerpark and the adjoining Stadtwald. With route adjustments, it can also be completed by bicycle. The tour includes opportunities for playing and refreshments and is described as manageable for families and less-trained walkers.

The Worpswede Circuit is 62.4 kilometres long and has 23 bridges. Along the route, BIKE IT! RadServiceStations provide free repair materials and a pump, tools for minor repairs, standard bicycle inner tubes and free Bremen BIKE IT! cycling maps.
