Local history in a former school building

Mönchwinkel Local History Museum is located in Mönchwinkel’s former school building. Its collection comprises more than 4,100 exhibits, although this number may change. Its subjects range from trades, agriculture and forestry, and domestic life to the development of the school in Mönchwinkel and everyday life. Visitors may try out some of the exhibits. The fact that the museum is housed in a former school building and also covers the development of the local school gives the visit a tangible connection to the area: here, history is encountered both in the building and in the collection’s subject matter.

Hiking and cycling trails

Hiking trails in Grünheide (Mark) include the Löcknitztal Trail, the 66 Lakes Hiking Trail, the circular trail around Möllensee and the Way of St. James. The EuroVelo Route R1, D-Route 3 (International Long-Distance Cycle Route), the Spree Cycle Route, the Oder-Spree Tour and the Tour Brandenburg also pass through Grünheide. Beach at Kiessee and natural bathing area at Möllensee

The beach at Kiessee is near the E 40 campsite in Kagel-Finkenstein. It has a beach volleyball court, table tennis tables and a playground for children. Another place to visit is the natural bathing area on the north shore of Möllensee. Its facilities include climbing and play equipment for children, a beach volleyball court and table tennis tables. While a playground is mentioned at Kiessee, Möllensee has climbing and play equipment; both places also offer volleyball and table tennis. Facility details may change, so check locally. Herb garden, boat tour and ostrich farm

A herb garden in Bürgerpark invites visitors to explore and pick herbs themselves. Boat tours on Peetzsee depart from the steamer and landing stage at Bürgerpark; availability and timetables may vary. Different experiences are therefore on offer here: exploring herbs yourself or enjoying the lake on a boat tour. Check the current timetable before planning a trip.

At the ostrich farm in Kagel, a guided tour provides information about ostriches and how they are raised. It is advisable to register in advance by phone. Also check before your trip whether the tour is currently running.

A regional extra in Oder-Spree
