Rüdersdorf bei Berlin combines a large lake with an exceptional industrial heritage landscape. The open-air museum Museumspark Rüdersdorf lies between the Strausberger Mühlenfließ and the limestone quarry, which has been active for over 770 years. Here, water, nature and the history of limestone mining stand side by side as distinct facets of the area.

Industrial heritage at Museumspark Rüdersdorf

The Museumspark covers 17 hectares. Its attractions include exhibitions and historic lime kilns; it also features a world-unique ensemble of industrial heritage. Anyone interested in the history and traces of limestone mining will find this a special focus of their visit. The lime kilns bring the industrial character of the Museumspark to life, while the exhibitions offer further insights.

The Museumspark is also a starting point for actively exploring the municipality and the region by bike: Through fLotte Brandenburg, anyone can borrow two cargo bikes free of charge. They can be used, for example, to visit the park or for bike rides through the municipality and region. Pick-up and return take place at the Museumspark ticket office on the day of the booking.

Kalksee Lake and paths by the water

Kalksee Lake is the second-largest lake in the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin. It is 1.9 kilometres long and up to 600 metres wide. You can explore it by passenger boat, kayak or stand-up paddleboard (SUP). This lets you experience the lake from different perspectives: on the water or, under your own power, by kayak or SUP.

A path also follows Kalksee Lake on foot: on the Rüdersdorf side, the 66 Lakes Hiking Trail follows the water for long stretches.

Views and culture in the municipality

The over-20-metre-high Wachtelturm tower stands on Wachtelberg and is the landmark of Hennickendorf. From there, the view stretches across the municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin to Berlin and the surrounding countryside. The viewpoint adds a panoramic perspective of the municipality and its surroundings to the impressions of Kalksee Lake and the Museumspark.

Another cultural venue is the Kulturhaus Martin-Andersen-Nexö. It was inaugurated in 1956 and has been continuously used and actively programmed as a cultural centre ever since. Continuous cultural use is therefore as much a part of the local character as the industrial heritage of the Museumspark. If you want your trip to include more than scenery and activities, you can also include this cultural aspect in your explorations.

Getting here and choosing your holiday focus
