Accommodation in Märkisch Luch
Märkisch Luch offers a range of themes to consider when planning a trip: nature, exercise and village history. They are particularly vivid in Garlitz. This district of the municipality of Märkisch Luch lies on the edge of Westhavelland Nature Park; a mixed forest and several local facilities each offer their own focus.

Mixed woodland and nature watching in Garlitz
The mixed forest in Garlitz offers opportunities for hiking and cycling. Mushroom picking is a seasonal activity. Those interested in great bustards can observe them from two observation towers: at Pflaumenweg and Schwarzer Weg. Please follow the guidance on observation times and stay on the designated paths.
Local history and routes
On a walk through Garlitz, the story trail presents important events in the village’s history on 13 panels. The playground, story trail and fitness trail are made of wood and share the same design. Several running and Nordic walking routes are also signposted in Garlitz. The “Through the Havelländisches Luch” cycling tour also passes through the village.
These different themes sit side by side: the story trail focuses on village history, while the signposted running and Nordic walking routes and the cycling tour make exercise a central theme. Planning your day around these options makes it easier to decide whether to focus on a walk, a running or walking route, or a cycling tour.
Village culture and architectural history
Garlitz village church was consecrated on 24 September 1826 and features simple Neoclassical forms. It is a single-nave plastered building with a pulpit altar on a gallery and a sacristy beneath it. This gives the village’s history an architectural dimension alongside the panels on the story trail.
The Garlitz Heimatkulturverein e.V. was founded in 2004 and works to support the village community and preserve local culture. It has staged children’s musicals and theatre performances and organised historical talks. It also established the “Kultur und Kulinaria” series. The KULTUR-BAR adds to the association’s activities during the winter months.
Other places to visit are in different districts of Märkisch Luch: in Buschow, the Soechting family’s hunting museum houses more than 3,000 hunting trophies, about half of which can be viewed. In Möthlow, an excursion to the vineyard is recommended. These examples complement Garlitz’s themes with culture and another excursion idea within the municipality.
The Havelland as a wider planning area
The wider destination of Havelland also offers its own themes to consider when planning a trip. During the spring and autumn migrations, up to 100,000 geese and hundreds of cranes gather at Lake Gülper, along with numerous wading birds, ducks and great egrets. On the southern shore, a roughly 1.5-kilometre-long educational trail with illustrated information panels offers opportunities for birdwatching.
For cycling tours in Havelland, the numbered junction signage makes it possible to plan individual routes. The Havelland Cycle Route runs through the Havelländisches Luch via Nauen, Ribbeck and Rathenow to Westhavelland Nature and Star Park. It is mostly paved, flat and pleasant to ride.
When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to decide what you want to focus on. If Garlitz’s forest, village history and observation towers are your priorities, focus your search on Märkisch Luch. If you also plan to explore cycling and birdwatching in Havelland, include the wider region in your considerations when choosing a location.
