Discover Prieros: Half-Timbered Houses, Nature and Waterways
Accommodation in Prieros
Prieros combines an island setting, a landscape of lakes and forests, and an informative local history with various opportunities to explore the surrounding area on foot, by bicycle or on the water. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment for a varied stay can choose between nature-focused excursions, historical impressions and water-based experiences here.
Nature Park, Trails and a Distinctive Landscape
Prieros is situated in the wildlife-rich lake and forest landscape of Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park. The Prieros Bio Garden contains plant communities and biotopes from the nature park, complementing the landscape experiences with a closer look at different habitats. The nature park information centre provides tips for excursions and nature observation in the nature park region. It also presents changing exhibitions on nature, art and culture.
Several trails with different focuses are available for planning your day. The “Prieros – From the Information Centre to the Bio Garden” circular trail is two kilometres long. The “Prieros and Huschtesee Circular Hiking Trail” leads to Lake Huschtesee. The Prieroser Heide circular trail runs partly along the shore of Lake Tiefen See. Before choosing your accommodation, these details can help you consider whether you would prefer to include a short circular trail, a hike with a destination at the lake or a route with a waterside section in your travel plans.
Local History at the Heimathaus and Village Church
The Heimathaus is a prominent place for learning about the history of Prieros. The approximately 280-year-old half-timbered house dedicates its permanent exhibition to rural life and the local history of Prieros. It also displays archaeological finds, objects relating to the region’s everyday culture and depictions of historical working practices of farmers, fishermen, blacksmiths, millers and other tradespeople.
Particularly vivid exhibits include the original Black Kitchen with its imposing smoke hood, historical kitchen and cooking utensils, clothing, farmhouse furniture, sewing machines and washing equipment. The collection also includes an iron treasure chest from the 17th century with 16 locking mechanisms and two original paintings by the artist Max Lingner, who had a summer residence in Prieros. Outside opening hours and the season, guided tours of the Heimathaus are available by telephone appointment.
The Prieros village church also contributes to the historical character of the town. It is a Neo-Romanesque brick building dating from 1875 and is listed in the heritage register of the State of Brandenburg, as of 1 January 2026. Inside is an altarpiece dated to approximately 1675 that originally did not belong to the altar. The Old School was built in 1890 as a sexton’s house and schoolhouse.
Exploring by Bicycle or Boat
The long-distance Dahme Cycle Route passes through Prieros. This means that when planning a trip, you can also consider accommodation with a focus not only on individual sights but on cycling experiences in the surrounding area. Prieros can also be reached by water from Berlin, Storkow, Teupitz or Märkisch Buchholz. Prieros Lock is located at kilometre 26.9 of the Dahme Waterway.
On the 6th stage of the “Märkische Umfahrt” route, it is also possible to continue from the destination in Prieros into the Schmölde towards the Teupitz waters. This gives waterway travellers their own perspective on the town and its location.
Discoveries for Different Types of Travel Days
The nature trail on the school grounds in Prieros provides knowledge about native animal and plant species and invites visitors to explore independently. It was opened with 20 information panels. This provides a specific opportunity to experience nature not only on longer trails but also through individual pieces of information and observations. Together with the Bio Garden, the exhibitions at the nature park information centre and the circular trails, it creates a varied programme for days at different paces.
For further orientation, you can also look at Klein Eichholz and Dolgenbrodt. This allows you to compare Prieros with other destinations on this page without losing sight of the town’s distinctive features.
