Serwest: Planet Trail and Fieldstone Church
Accommodation in Serwest
Serwest brings together attractions that spark curiosity in very different ways: the Planet Trail illustrates the proportions of the solar system, the village church features carefully worked fieldstone blocks, and a Bible garden lies directly alongside a historic pilgrimage route. Other options include an alpaca farm in Chorin-Serwest and the “Alte Schule” café in the Serwest district of Chorin. When planning your trip, you can distinguish these local attractions from the cultural and nature offerings in the wider destination of Chorin.
Planet Trail and Village Church in Serwest
An official notice from 2026 gives the Planet Trail in Buchholz (Serwest) as approximately one kilometre long. The trail illustrates the proportions of the solar system at a scale of 1:1.4 billion. This puts the spatial dimensions of our solar system centre stage—a striking contrast with the scale of a village. Its approximate length and stated scale provide two specific points of reference for understanding the subject.
The village church of Serwest offers a different glimpse into the local history. It is a rectangular hall church built from carefully worked fieldstone blocks. It is believed to date from the second half of the 13th century. The building combines a clearly described basic form and distinctive building material with a cautiously qualified historical date.
Pilgrimage Route, Animals and Café
The Bible garden at the Engler organic farm in Serwest lies directly alongside the Via Imperii pilgrimage route. The garden and pilgrimage route offer two different points of interest: one is a specific garden, the other a named pilgrimage route. For travellers interested in religious topics or pilgrimage routes, this setting provides a special point of reference.
The alpaca farm in Chorin-Serwest offers alpaca walks and farm tours by appointment. Kangaroos and other animals can be seen during these activities. Visits require an appointment in advance, so anyone planning this activity should arrange a time accordingly. The “Alte Schule” café in the Serwest district of Chorin opened on 22 May 2026. Check the current schedule before visiting.
The Wider Destination of Chorin
The wider destination of Chorin also offers its own excursion and cultural attractions. The RE3 railway line connects Chorin station directly with Berlin Central Station, Potsdamer Platz and Gesundbrunnen, as well as with destinations in the direction of Angermünde. From the station, a signposted footpath leads to Chorin Monastery in about 25 minutes. This gives you both a rail connection and an approximate walking time to help plan a monastery visit.
Chorin Cistercian Monastery was founded in 1273. Its permanent exhibition covers the construction of the brick monastery and medieval monastic economy in the context of regional history, up to the monastery’s dissolution in 1542. A guided tour of the grounds lasts about 90 minutes. It follows an outdoor route past the remains of the former monastery mill, along the west façade of the monastery and on beside the Nettelgraben to Amtssee lake; it ends at the cemetery. As booking arrangements may change, check them before your visit.
Chorin’s cultural offerings also include the annual chapel concerts at the monastery. The chamber music series has been running since 1992 and features sacred and secular music from the Middle Ages to the modern era. Individual programmes vary. Contemporary art is exhibited in the Infirmarium, the monastery’s former infirmary and guesthouse for the monks; specific exhibition themes may change.
Amtssee lake is another point of reference in the wider destination of Chorin: swimming is permitted there, and the lake is designated as a bathing area. Its maximum depth is 6.5 metres. Check local seasonal and safety conditions.
When searching for a holiday apartment, it helps to decide first what you would like to focus on: should the attractions mentioned in Serwest shape your trip, or would you also like to include options in the wider Chorin area, such as the monastery, a guided tour, concerts or Amtssee lake?
