Hiking around Melchow
The 66 Lakes Hiking Trail passes through Melchow and provides clear guidance for anyone wishing to include a longer hiking route in their trip. One specific day hike runs from Melchow to Falkenberg via Trampe and Gamensee. It is 22 kilometres long and takes about five hours. This information can help you gauge the hike as a substantial day trip and weigh it against other plans during your stay.
The Falkenberg hike starts at Melchow Nature Park Station. In the village, follow the 66 Lakes Hiking Trail markers: a blue circle on a white square. The regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg to Melchow is one option for getting to the starting point. Melchow stop is on the Berlin–Szczecin railway line and is served by Deutsche Bahn regional trains. When planning, you can therefore take into account both the marked route through the village and the train as a travel option.
Trails along the Nonnenfließ and nature in the municipality
The Nonnenfließ circular trail can also be combined with travel by public transport: it can start at Melchow Nature Park Station and end at a bus stop in Spechthausen. If you are looking for a route with different starting and ending points, you can consider this option when planning your trip. Another route runs through the municipality from Schönholzer Straße via the village of Schönholz to the Nonnenfließ.
The “Nonnenfliess-Schwärzetal” nature reserve begins in the municipality near the village of Schönholz and can be reached via “Alte Bernauer Heerstrasse”. Melchow is also not far from Lake Schwärze. These natural attractions add further reasons to explore the area to the village’s hiking options.
Discoveries in the village
The fairytale trail in Melchow invites people of all ages to stroll, discover and marvel. It offers a different way to spend time in the village than a longer hike such as the route to Falkenberg. If you are travelling with children, you can consider the trail as an activity to enjoy together; the invitation is expressly extended to people of all ages.
A listed blacksmith’s forge is located along the village’s main road on the L 200 and can be visited by prior arrangement. The Nature Park Station, in turn, tells the story of the village’s railway history: it was built in 1904 as a small gatekeeper’s hut on the Berlin–Stettin Railway. The forge and station represent different facets of local history. Visiting the forge requires making an enquiry; the station’s history is its distinctive point of interest here.
Events and finding the right accommodation
Events held throughout the year in Melchow include an annual Advent market. A kite festival is also among the events to which guests are invited. Both offer a reason to take an interest in local events when planning your trip; the time of year is already part of the Advent market’s character.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Melchow, you can consider whether your itinerary leaves more room for longer excursions or activities in the village. This lets you choose a personal focus for your stay without having to combine all your plans into one trip.
