Moorland between Halfing and Amerang

The Halfinger Freimoos protected landscape lies between Halfing and Amerang. This moorland and lake area is notable for its valuable and unique flora and fauna. For nature enthusiasts, it offers a focus beyond simply going for a walk: this is not just about getting outdoors, but also about exploring a landscape whose plant and animal life is protected.

The Freimoos Moor Nature Trail connects the municipalities of Amerang and Halfing, passing through a variety of moorland landscapes. At numerous informative stops, you can learn about the protected wildlife and plant life. The trail also explores the historical and cultural significance of the moor for Amerang and Halfing. Nature and history are therefore equally important themes along the route. If you are out with children, the stops offer opportunities to pay attention both to the landscape and to its significance in the past.

Walking around Halfing and Höslwang

Another way to explore the landscape is the Panorama Trail. Starting in the centre of Halfing, it loops around Halfing and Höslwang along paths through fields and woods. Along the way, it offers panoramic views of the Alps. The starting point in the centre of the village is a helpful landmark when planning this trail into your stay.

The two trails offer different experiences: the Moor Nature Trail leads through a variety of moorland landscapes and combines nature with historical and cultural information; the Panorama Trail follows paths through fields and woods, with views towards the Alps. Which experience matters more to you can help shape your day’s plans.

Festival and history

The Immling Festival takes place every year from June to August at the estate near Halfing. The programme includes several original opera productions, dance theatre, concerts and family programmes. The festival also offers a Children’s Culture Week every year during the second week of the summer holidays. This is a specific cultural option for families, while the programme’s range also caters to different interests in music and the performing arts.

Halfing also has a long Marian history: for several centuries, it was the most important Marian pilgrimage site in the western Chiemgau, between the Inn, Lake Chiemsee and the Alz. The parish and pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary is documented as early as 928. This history adds a cultural dimension to a visit, whether you are planning your trip primarily for nature or to attend an event.
