Dittelbrunn: Park, History and Culture
Accommodation in Dittelbrunn
The Marienbach Valley shapes Dittelbrunn; a park combining activity and relaxation lies right beside the Marienbach. The municipality, with its four districts of Dittelbrunn, Hambach, Holzhausen and Pfändhausen, is located north of the city of Schweinfurt. This gives you a range of local themes to consider when planning your trip: the multi-generational park in Dittelbrunn, archaeological finds and a road cycling museum in Hambach, and a Baroque church in Pfändhausen.

Activity and breaks by the Marienbach
The multi-generational park opened in 2018 at the entrance to Dittelbrunn, right next to the Marienbach. It offers opportunities for people of all generations to get active, as well as a large selection of CrossFit equipment. There is a playground for small children, along with places to rest and watch what is going on.
The park therefore brings together different ways to spend time: active exercise, play and a quieter break. If you are travelling with small children, the playground is a clearly specified amenity; the places to rest complement the activity area. This makes the park a distinct, clearly defined focus for a stay in Dittelbrunn.
Prehistory, church art and cycling in the municipal districts
Hambach has nine prehistoric and early historic archaeological sites, including burial mounds dating from the Hallstatt period. Hambach is also home to a road cycling museum. These themes offer different perspectives: the archaeological sites trace early history, while the museum focuses on cycling.
Pfändhausen has a Baroque church with Rococo furnishings in the style of Balthasar Neumann. Together with the archaeological sites in Hambach, it offers a different cultural point of interest from the park by the Marienbach. So when exploring Dittelbrunn, it is worth considering the municipal districts as part of the overall picture rather than focusing only on the district that shares the municipality’s name.
More landscapes and routes in the Schweinfurt destination
The Schweinfurt destination has further landscape-related attractions to explore. The former Brönnhof military training area was included in Germany’s National Natural Heritage on January 13, 2016; the area covers 746 hectares. Brönnhof provides a habitat for protected species such as Bechstein’s bat and the great crested newt. Ellertshäuser See, in the north of Schweinfurt district, is used for local recreation. These examples offer two different connections with nature: an area of particular importance as a habitat and a lake used for recreation.
For outdoor activities elsewhere in the Schweinfurt destination, there is an extensive network of hiking trails and a well-developed cycling network of over 800 kilometres. Schweinfurt district is responsible for signposting the junctions on its hiking trails and for signposting its cycling routes. Public transport connects the district with the Mainfranken region via main and secondary routes, school buses, city buses, rail services, routes operated by other transport authorities and the callheinz mobility service. When no bus or train connection is available, callheinz takes passengers from a callheinz stop to a transfer point on a scheduled service or directly to their destination. Availability and booking conditions may change; check them before travelling.
Culture, wine and a range of excursion interests
The Schweinfurt destination also offers a range of cultural highlights. In Sömmersdorf, the Passion Trails start at the Passion Gallery. The gallery displays unique photographs from the 1930s and illustrates the history of the Passion stage from 1933 to the present day. The Sömmersdorf Passion Plays take place every five years; check the specific performance dates before making plans.
In Werneck, the palace park invites visitors to stroll among its English-style landscape, exotic plants and pond. Parts of Werneck Palace are open to visitors, including the Hall of Heaven and the Baroque palace church. Check the current visiting conditions before your visit. If you are interested in wine, the Schweinfurt destination offers more to explore: in Handthal, wine walks lead through the vineyards to the “terroir-F-Punkt” viewpoint on Handthaler Stollberg, where there is a castle ruin. Groha Winery in Oberschwarzach offers wine tastings, guided wine experiences and cellar tours. Confirm dates, offers and booking conditions in advance.
