Discover the church and village history

Situated on a hill, the Church of St. Simon and Judas Thaddaeus shapes the appearance of Unterelsbach and can be seen from afar. The listed building is a former chancel-tower church and is now a hall church with a recessed western chancel and an eastern tower topped by a pointed helmet roof. The barrel-vaulted medieval ground floor of the chancel tower has been preserved in the tower, which was renovated in a post-Gothic style in 1615–17. The nave has a gabled roof, while the chancel has a hipped roof dating from 1810.
